About Us

We are Australian volunteers who want to make a difference in the lives of the children of Vanuatu.

How 2 Help

.

We believe "Children are the Future", and we want to provide secure all weather shelters for schools etc. to as many villages as we can across the islands of Vanuatu.

We are a varied group of people from many different backgrounds and careers. Some are tradespeople, office workers, students, mothers, fathers, grandparents just to mention a few.

We volunteer our time and money where can both here in Australia and in Vanuatu. Our members spend time fundraising and giving information sessions to help raise awareness and some much needed funds. We visit Vanuatu on occassions for various projects and to organise future projects too. There is a lot of work to be done and never enough hands. New members are always welcomed and appreciated as are donations of any size. It is only through the generosity of our members and supporters that we are able to offer this much needed help to the people of Vanuatu.

Operation Education Vanuatu is a registered charity (in Vanuatu # 34692) & is a non government, not for profit entity

This charity was created when the founding members realised the great need for these projects across the Vanuatu Group.

The charity's aim is to create"kit" form buildings, 6m x 6m modules, to be manufactured in Port Vila Vanuatu. Fly 'n Build teams will be needed to travel to remote areas to erect these "kits". Each project should only take a few days. These modules can be joined together to form larger buildings. (ie. two modules together become a 6m x 12m shelter). To keep costs as low as possible and to encourage a community spirit the charity will provide the main structure of posts, trusses and roof sheeting. The local community will then complete the building by constructing the walls, floors etc. These can all be completed quite cost effectively by utilising local materials available in each area. The integrity of the structure will be strong enough to withstand Vanuatu's tropical and cyclonic weather.

Vanuatu is an idealic island location in the Southern Pacific Ocean.

Some 83 separate islands of varying sizes make up the Vanuatu Group.

Vanuatu is often portrayed as the 'ultimate island getaway' with 5 star resorts and hotels peppered across the islands.

However as our founding members soon realised, the 'real' Vanuatu was hidden amongst the small villages that surround the city centres. Spending time with the 'real' people of Vanuatu (known as Ni-Vans) it quickly became apparant the great need for help. They are hungry for an education which will dramatically impact on their future prospects.

If we could provide some form of shelter where the children could come for school instead of the classes under the nearest tree (weather permitting), if we could provide basic amenities children may be prevented from getting sick, if we could provide all weather meeting places for the community, then maybe we could make a difference in the lives of these wonderful people of Vanuatu.
